MCO enforcers can use all means to ensure compliance

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — Those empowered to enforce the movement-control order (MCO) can use whatever means necessary, including force, to ensure compliance with the directive, said Takiyuddin Hassan.

The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of parliamentary affairs and law said enforcement personnel can detain errant individuals until they are brought to court.

It is essential that everyone cooperates with the authorities and abide by the MCO for the government directive, aimed at stemming the spread of Covid-19, to be truly effective, he said in a statement yesterday.

The order, which took effect on March 18, is in force till April 14.
