Police detain 320 for defying MCO on Friday

KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Police picked up 320 individuals for defying the movement control order (MCO) yesterday, reported Free Malaysia Today.

Speaking to a press conference after chairing the special task force meeting today, Senior Minister (Safety cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police have also detained 162 people on Thursday.

“We believe the arrests by police have improved the compliance rate which now stands at 97 per cent.

“Still, many are not abiding by the MCO. In one district, Friday prayers were still going on despite instructions against it.

“As a result, 116 people were arrested. We know there are five more mosques still having mass prayers,” he said.

Ismail then pointed out that residents staying in gated communities must also adhere to the order.

“We have seen people still jogging in such places and have taken action. MCO applies to all.

“In some places in the Klang Valley, traffic jams have been reported. This shows many are not observing the MCO.”

He added that police have also closed all hidden routes through which foreigners have been using to enter or exit the country.
