(UPDATE) Selangor Job Fair 2020, other ‘non-critical’ state events dropped

SHAH ALAM, March 12 — The state government has postponed several public events in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia.

Among the postponed programmes include the Selangor Land Carnival 2020 and the Selangor Job Fair 2020, which were scheduled to be held this weekend.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision to postpone or cancel events that are non-critical was made after the state government took into account the views of various parties as well as to prevent the spread of the virus.

“The decision was made following the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) announcement that the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic. Precautionary measures will be implemented for those events which are deemed ‘critical’ and unpreventable,” he said in a statement here today.

Amirudin stressed that the state government prioritises the healthcare of the public and will do whatever necessary to contain the outbreak (Covid-19).

“Practice good etiquette as stipulated by the Health Ministry such as by using the hand sanitiser and wearing a face mask,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amiruddin said the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) had approved the formation of the task force assigned to control and monitor the Covid-19 outbreak in the state.

“The task force will be headed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad and will be assisted by state Health, Welfare, Women Empowerment and Family committee chairman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud,” he added.

Among the other members of the task force include Datuk Dr Christopher Lee Kwok Choong, Datuk Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, Datuk Dr Fadzilah Kamaludin, Dr Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman and Dr Yap Wei Aun.
