Selangor MB advises cancelling of large-scale public events

SHAH ALAM, March 9 — The Selangor government has advised event organisers in the state to postpone all large-scale public events following the second wave of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Its Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the public should comply with the precautionary measures to minimise the risk of the disease from spreading.

“The state government had cancelled a Marathon event in Petaling Jaya involving 8,000 participants scheduled last Saturday, as well as a few other programmes, as a precautionary measure.

“Cancelling or postponing events which involves huge gatherings is the best step for now to contain the virus in the state,” he told reporters after launching the Selangor Hasil Suri Expo at the Shah Alam Convention Centre here on March 7.

Amirudin added that the state executive council meeting, which is scheduled to take place this Wednesday, will focus on the necessary measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“However, the meeting could convene earlier this week (today or Tuesday) if there is an urgent need. We will also consult with the Health Ministry personnel from time to time in regards to Covid-19,” he said.
