SHAH ALAM, March 3 — The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) had caught 929 stray dogs out of the 1,468 noise-related complaints received throughout 2019, said its president Noraini Roslan.
However, the latest figure was said to be lower than the 1,022 stray dogs caught in the previous year, which involved 1,353 complaints.
“Most cases of stray dogs include pet dogs that were abandoned by their owners who had moved from the area, sick dogs, and strays that came from uncontrolled breeding.
“Each complaint were handled by the MPSJ Stray Dog Catching Squad and the enforcement would follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) as there could be some risks to the public such as safety, environmental health and hygiene issues,” she said after attending the Selangor Local Authority Animal Control Programme 2020 at the MPSJ multipurpose hall, here yesterday.
Noraini said MPSJ had also implemented the new policy of enforcing higher licensing fees for unneutered dogs.
“We want to encourage pet owners to neuter their pets to avoid uncontrolled breeding when they pay less for licensing.
“For those who do not neuter their dog, the registration fee would be RM100 and an additional RM20 fee the following year, while owners of neutered dog would pay RM10,” she said.
