Two MAEPS halls to be turned into Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre

PUTRAJAYA, March 28 — Two halls at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) will be used as a quarantine and treatment centre for Covid-19 positive patients who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the centre which would be ready by tomorrow evening was a precautionary measure in the event of a drastic increase in Covid-19 patients expected in mid-April.

He explained that a total of 600 beds would be placed at the centre, with 400 in Hall A and 200 in Hall B.

“It is a preparation, let us prepare for the worst. It is better for us to be well-prepared than under-prepared. Under-prepared means unprepared. Use this as a model,” he told a press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry today.

He said the ministry initially allocated 3,400 beds in hospitals nationwide for Covid-19 patients before adding 1,892 beds at the ministry’s training institutes, taking the total to 5,292.

According to a statement, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba visited MAEPS today to observe preparations for the quarantine centre.
