SHAH ALAM, April 13 ― The Federal government has decided that barbershops, hair salons, and optical shops in the country are not allowed to operate during the movement control order (MCO) period, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The minister for the security cluster said the decision was decided by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin following the public feedback on the government’s decision in allowing the sectors to open.

“The people have expressed their concern and the government has taken into consideration the opinions and feedbacks from various parties such as experts and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“Therefore, the Prime Minister has decided that barbershops, hair salons, and optical shops across the country should remain closed during the MCO,” he said in his Covid-19 daily briefing in Putrajaya today.

Ismail Sabri also said any form of Ramadan bazaars nationwide is not allowed to operate during the MCO.

In response to allowing students from both public and private higher learning institutions to return home, Ismail Sabri said that the students should remain on campus and that the Higher Education Ministry will ensure their meals are taken care of.

On Friday, the Federal government had announced that several services, including hair salons, hardware and electronics shops would be allowed to operate during the third phase of the MCO, which had been extended from April 15 to April 28.

The sectors that are allowed to operate must comply with the existing guidelines and the standard operating procedure imposed.
