PUTRAJAYA, April 25 — A total of 99 Covid-19 cases have recovered and were discharged today, bringing cumulative recovery cases in the country to 3,762, or 65.5 per cent of the total number of cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said discharged cases today almost doubled the number of new cases reported overnight.
“Up to noon today (April 25), 51 new cases were reported, taking the country’s Covid-19 tally to 5,742 cases.
“The total number of Covid-19 infectivity cases stands at 1,882 cases. They have been isolated and given treatment,” he said at the daily Covid-19 media briefing here today.
However, Dr Noor Hisham said that two more Covid-19 related deaths were reported overnight, with the death toll now at 98 cases or 1.71 per cent of the total number of cases.
“The 97th death (case 2,354) is a 62-year-old Malaysian man with a history of heart disease. He was treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on March 28 and died today at 3.53 am.
“The 98th fatality (case 2,806) is Malaysian woman, aged 62, who had a history of high blood pressure. She was in close contact with Covid-19 patient (case 1,346 and next of kin), treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 22 and died on April 24 at 5.43 pm,” he said.
Asked on the Bali patient under investigation cluster at a medical centre in Kuantan, Pahang, Dr Noor Hisham said 43 people from that cluster had tested positive for Covid-19, of which 10 of them are health personnel from the centre itself.
“Thirty of them are being treated at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Kuantan, nine have recovered, another case is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit while three have died.
“Some 2,301 screening tests were carried out on personnel and patients from the medical centre,” he said.
