Govt may allow those from ‘kampung’ to return to cities

SHAH ALAM, April 22 — Those who have been stuck in their kampung (village) before the movement control order (MCO) was enforced on March 18 may be given the permission to return back to their respective homes or place of work, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The minister for security cluster said the Federal government is looking into the matter and a decision will be made on May 1.

“Those who are in their ‘kampung’ and would like to return back to their respective homes can register via the online application GerakMalaysia beginning April 25.

“For those without internet access can register at the nearest police station. However, to reduce congestion at the stations, the people are advised to set an appointment with the police,” Ismail Sabri told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

The GerakMalaysia application was developed in collaboration with the police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Ministry (MCMC).

Ismail Sabri said the people will be required to list down their personal details and their current location (red, orange, yellow or green zones) in the police registry.

He also stressed that the final decision is subject to approval from the National Security Council (NSC) and recommendations from the Health Ministry (MOH).

“We are still waiting for reports involving the matter which will be presented on April 25 and will proceed to discuss the related standard operating procedures,” he said.
