One-month rental waiver for 3 PPR homes, low-cost flat in Selangor

By Ashwin Kumar

SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The Selangor government has announced that three people’s housing project (PPR) and one low-cost flat in the state will be exempted from paying rent for April.

The housing projects that are given the rental exemption are Kg Baru Hicom PPR, Kota Damansara PPR, Serendah PPR, and Council Homes Bandar Baru Bangi, which involves 2,632 units.

In a statement today, Selangor Housing and Urban Living Committee chairman Haniza Mohamed Talha said the tenants are also given a two-month rental deferment for May and June, to lighten the burden of those affected by the movement control order (MCO).

“We have received complaints that there are tenants who cannot afford to pay their monthly rent because they had their salary cut, cannot continue their businesses or have lost their source of income.

“We hope that this move will help ease their burden,” she said in the statement.

Haniza said the one-month rental exemption would involve a total collection of RM562,358.00, while the two-month rental deferment involves a total cost of RM1,124,716.00.

She had also reminded the public to continue abiding by the MCO so that everyone can return to their normal daily routines.

On March 21, the Housing and Local Government Ministry had announced a one-month rental waiver for 9,185 PPR units.

The housing projects under the ministry’s purview are namely Sentul Murni PPR, Rumah Transit Bukit Jalil, Lembah Subang PPR 1, Lembah Subang PPR 2, Kg Hassan Hulu Selangor PPR, Ladang Siliau Port Dickson PPR, Tok Suboh PPR, Amanjaya PPR, Kota Setar PPR, Sinar Intan PPR 3, Gua Musang PPR and Kota Baru PPR.
