SOP on MCO relaxation in green zones to finalise next week

By Ashwin Kumar

SHAH ALAM, April 28 — The Federal government is drawing up a holistic guideline on the “relaxation” of the movement control order (MCO) in the green zones, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The minister for security cluster said the standard operating procedure (SOP), which is formulated by the National Security Council (NSC), Health Ministry (MOH), and police, will be finalised sometime next week.

“We are still reviewing the SOP and taking in feedback from all the ministries. If we are to relax some restrictions in the future, then the SOP has to be followed,” Ismail Sabri told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Citing gated communities that have not recorded any Covid-19 cases as an example, Ismail Sabri suggested that the residents would be allowed some leeway within their own community.

“Let’s take the People’s Housing Project (PPR) for example, if the residents are found to be free from Covid-19, they may be allowed to wander outside within the gated area. Maybe we will look into perhaps fixing a schedule for their outing,” he said.

Ismail Sabri added the NSC will also take into account all aspects that will be in place after the MCO is lifted.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had last week announced a “slight relaxation” on the MCO, including allowing students staying on campuses to return to their hometown.

The Federal administration had also permitted single interstate travel for those who had been stuck in their hometown before the MCO was enforced and would like to return back to their respective homes.

To date, there are 12 districts nationwide categorised as red zones based on the active Covid-19 cases, including Hulu Langat and Petaling in Selangor, with 72 and 44 active cases registered respectively.

According to the MOH data, the number of green zones has increased in the country with 77 districts in total.

The country’s Covid-19 cases are broken up into four categories: Green (no cases); Yellow (1-20 cases), Orange (21 to 40 cases) and Red (40 cases and above).
