SHAH ALAM, May 3 — The Batu township under Gombak district has been categorised as a Covid-19 red zone, following the surge in new cases recorded yesterday.

Based on the data provided by the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre of the Selangor State Health Department, the township now has 77 daily cases from the recorded 36 cases the day before.

The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) said the rise in new Covid-19 cases also had the Gombak and Petaling districts declared a red zone, after hitting 77 and 43 active cases respectively

“Among the main factor in the increase is due to the enforced enhance movement control order (EMCO), which is well under control,” the task force said on Twitter last night.

On April 25, the Federal government had enforced the seventh phase of the EMCO in Selayang Baru, Gombak, until May 3, which involves six zones.

Prior to that, the sixth enhanced order was implemented on April 20 at Pusat Bandar Utara in Kuala Lumpur and the areas surrounding the Selayang wholesale market, also known as the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market.

Selangor had yesterday saw a rise in 63 cases, pushing the total tally in the state to 1,518. The total number of active recorded cases is 213.

“We will continue to remind the people of Selangor to keep a social distance and practice good hygiene.

“The recipe to flattening the curve of the Covid-19 pandemic is continuously practising in social distancing and personal hygiene. If we are consistent, all our efforts will not go in vain,” the task force added.

“Therefore be disciplined and don’t be complacent.”

Just on Friday, all the townships in Selangor were clear from being classified a red zone with only one district left in the red zone, which was Hulu Langat. The district now has 49 active cases.

The death toll in the state remains at 18.
