Covid-19: List of fake news on social media

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — The following is the morning update from the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (MCMC) Quick Response Team on countering fake news related to Covid-19 on social media.

1. Terengganu police chief Datuk Roslee Chik denies that police had issued an order to all police stations in the state to ban inter-district and interstate travel from May 22 to 27, as was circulated on social media. He explained that only inter-state travel is not allowed as per existing orders.

2. The Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS) denies that it gave permission to organise Ramadan bazaars in Tanjung Karang, as being circulated on social media via a video. MDKS explained that the hawker site in the video had been given permission to operate during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period, from May 13, on condition CMCO SOPs were complied with. These include taking turns to do business, social distancing and operating hours set from 3 pm to 10 pm during the Ramadan month. MDKS stressed that regular monitoring and enforcement was conducted by its enforcement division with the cooperation of the police, and Rela.
