Five new Selangor Agro Markets to open before Aidilfitri

By Khairul Azran Hussin

AMPANG, May 13 — The state government will open several Selangor Agro Markets in at least five new locations soon, says state executive councillor Izham Hashim.

The State Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman said this is to meet the public demand, especially on beef products for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

“Opening up several locations for the agro market will also help the farmers and livestock breeders that were affected by the enforced movement control order (MCO) to generate income.

“The locations will be finalised during the state executive council weekly meeting tomorrow (today),” he told reporters when met after the handover ceremony of the facial recognition and body temperature detection system contributed to the Pandan Indah community service centre, here yesterday.

Izham said the opening of the new agro markets will take some time as it requires detailed review, especially if it uses the drive-through concept.

Selangor has 10 agro markets located in Dengkil, Puchong, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam as well as the Bandar Baru Bangi business centre, Selayang pasar tani, My Farm Outlet in Putrajaya, and Section 13 dan 15 in Shah Alam.

Since the agro markets were first introduced on March 27, the initiative has recorded a daily sales record between RM20,000 to RM250,000.
