Jais: No zakat payments on Hari Raya morning

SHAH ALAM, May 21 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) says zakat fitrah (personal tithe) payments will not be allowed to be carried out at all mosques and suraus across the state on the morning of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Its director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the decision was made to avoid the public from gathering at the mosques and suraus on Hari Raya morning, where only the imams, bilals and mosque officials on duty are allowed to be present to perform the Aildilfitri prayer.

“It is a preventive measure to curb from the spread of the Covid-19 infection as previously, it has been a norm that the public would gather to pay their zakat at the last minute before performing the Aidilfitri prayers,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Shahzihan said those who have yet to pay their zakat fitrah should make their payments immediately before Aidilfitri.

“The payments can be done either via online or with the amil (one who is appointed to collect zakat fitrah) at several selected locations at a specified time set by the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS),” he added.

The public can contact LZS for further information on the closest branch or on the payment method for zakat fitrah.
