Selangor Ruler: Celebrate Hari Raya festival in ‘new normal’

SHAH ALAM, May 18 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had today reminded the people that the Hari Raya festival will be celebrated according to new norms.

His Royal Highness had advised against the usual practice of physical greetings and house visits to avoid the risk of Covid-19 infections.

“This year, we will be celebrating Aidilfitri differently due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected the people around the world.

“The balik kampung tradition, which involves interstate travels, should be avoided. Don’t gather or organise open houses which could cause clusters of coronavirus infections.

“Although the statistics on new Covid-19 cases in Selangor has shown a steady decline, we must remain vigilant and take precautionary measures,” he said in a Royal address posted on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page today.

Sultan Sharafuddin also urged the people and the Muslim community to remain united and avoid disputes, as the people should be working together to ensure that the virus is contained and that the country’s economy is strengthened.

“During this holy month, I would like to remind the people to carry out religious practices and to stay away from immoral activities.

“With this, Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and I would like to extend our Hari Raya wishes to everyone, especially the Muslim community in Selangor and Malaysia,” he said.
