Broga Hill closed down for two weeks over SOP non-compliance

KAJANG, June 25 — Recreational park Broga Hill in Semenyih has been ordered to close for two weeks beginning June 27 due to failure to comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP), says the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).

Its president Datuk Zulkefli Khalid said the temporary closure of the famous hiking spot was decided during the state security working committee meeting yesterday.

“We had allowed hiking activities to resume (at Broga Hill) but many had not complied with the SOP, therefore it is best (to close the area) as the hikers were complacent towards the Covid-19 situation, especially on the government’s efforts to curb the infection,” he said when met after visiting the Sungai Chua recreational park here today.

Zulkefli said the local authorities will limit the number of visitors entering the park to avoid a repeated incident. He said they will also cooperate with the police and the (Hulu Langat) Land and District Office in ensuring observance of the SOP.

“The public is reminded to not violate the rules and practise social distancing when hiking,” he said.

On June 22, news had circulated on social media of overcrowding at Broga Hill, after the Federal government had allowed recreational activities to resume during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period under strict SOP, beginning June 16.
