Covid-19: Singapore’s tally at 37,910 with new cases

SINGAPORE, June 7 — Singapore has preliminarily confirmed 383 new cases of Covid-19 with the vast majority infected still being foreign workers at dormitories, thus, raising the tally to 37,910.

The republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) said the noon data today showed that only 14 cases from the community, of whom 10 are Singaporeans or permanent residents and four are work pass holders.

The ministry, in a statement today said, of the 14 cases, nine were proactively screened as part of its active case finding to identify cases early and isolate them.

Of these, it said six were picked up as a result of testing of school staff and students above the age of 12 diagnosed with an acute respiratory infection (ARI) at first presentation to a doctor.

The epidemiological evidence suggests that these cases were likely to have been infected during the Circuit Breaker period and not after school re-opening, it said.

“The other three cases were tested as they had prolonged ARI symptoms,” it said, adding that epidemiological investigations have been ongoing for the remaining cases.

In full data released late Saturday, Singapore classified 1,729 as community cases, 580 as imported cases and 35,218 as foreign workers residing in dorms.

Two new clusters were identified yesterday, involving dormitories at Beyond Tuas South Boulevard; and 10, Kwong Min Road.

As there have been no more cases linked to the construction site at 15 Serangoon North Avenue 1 for the past two incubation periods of 28 days, the cluster has now been closed.
