Decision on wedding ceremonies to be known on Wednesday – Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA, June 22 — National Security Council (NSC) will discuss in-depth on whether it will allow wedding ceremonies to be held in a special meeting tomorrow.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision on the matter would be announced on Wednesday.

He said the government is aware and understands the plight of wedding planners who were adversely affected by the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18.

“Tomorrow’s meeting will not only discuss the permission but also the standard operating procedure (SOP) as well as the number of attendance,” he told a daily press conference on the recovery movement control Order (RMCO) here today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri would look into the implementation of Friday Prayers in two sessions as what is being implemented in Singapore.

In another development, Ismail Sabri said the government has allowed foreign spouses and children of Malaysian citizens holding the long-term social visit pass to return to the country subject to obtaining prior approval from the Immigration Department.

“I advise them not to fly back before getting the approval.

“This is to avoid them from getting stranded at the airport, or having to return to their home countries,” he said.

Ismail Sabri also advised parents to make sure about their children’s health condition before sending them to school which will reopen on Wednesday.

“Only healthy and non-symptomatic children should be sent to school…children must adhere to the prescribed SOP and maintain good hygiene especially regular handwashing and if possible, it is advisable to wear face masks,” he said.

On the control of the country’s borders, Ismail Sabri said 977 illegal immigrants and 161 boat skippers have been detained for attempting to enter the country illegally.

“Also detained were 36 individuals suspected to be smugglers and 26 vessels,” he said adding that some 97 individuals were arrested yesterday for violating the RMCO.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the cumulative number of SOP-compliant construction sites so far was 2,186 sites and 421 sites which were not in compliance with the SOP had been given warnings.
