Four new Covid-19 infections, 96 pct recovery rate recorded

SHAH ALAM, June 26 — Malaysia saw an increase in four Covid-19 cases as of noon today, in which three were imported infections.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the accumulated figure in the country to 8,600, with 208 active cases recorded.

He said all of the newly recorded cases had involved Malaysian citizens, whereby the single local transmission was detected from the Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) screening at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Johor.

“A total of 40 patients have recovered and discharged from hospital, pushing the cumulative number of recoveries to 8,271 cases or a 96.2 recovery rate.

“Two positive Covid-19 cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but none requiring respiratory aid,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said no fatality was reported and the death toll remains at 121, or 1.41 per cent out of the total number of cases.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said popular hiking destination Broga Hill in Semenyih will be closed to the public beginning June 27 (Saturday) until further notice.

He said the decision was made following recent reports that the recovery movement control order (RMCO) standard operating procedure (SOP) was breached in the area as due to the high number of visitors.

“The closure of the recreational park is in accordance with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342),” he added.
