High jump in new Covid-19 cases involving foreigners, only 4 local transmissions

SHAH ALAM, June 4 — Malaysia saw a steep rise in new Covid-19 cases with a total of 277 infections recorded as of noon today.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, however, said the daily cases involved 271 foreigners, two imported cases, and only four cases were local transmissions.

“A total of 270 foreigners infected are from the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot, which was repeat samples of those detained and quarantined there. Another one foreigner tested positive was from the construction site in Pudu,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said 28 Covid-19 recoveries were registered, pushing the total recoveries to 6,559. The high jump in daily cases saw a drop in the recovery rate with 79.5 per cent.

“Six positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including two patients requiring ventilator support,” he told a daily news conference on Covid-19 here today.

“The number of positive Covid-19 cases in Malaysia stands at 8,247, with 1,573 active cases.”

Dr Noor Hisham said no fatalities were reported keeping the death toll at 115.
