Single-digit trend continues, active Covid-19 cases below 200-mark

SHAH ALAM, June 26 — Six new Covid-19 infections were recorded as of noon yesterday, bringing the total accumulated number of cases in the country to 8,606.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 23 recoveries were registered with a total of 8,294 patients to have fully recovered from the disease, or 96.4 per cent out of the total number of cases.

He said this pushes the total number of active cases to go down below the 200-mark, with a total of 191 cases.

“Today is the 17th day since the recovery movement control order (RMCO) was implemented on June 10.

“The daily Covid-19 cases have recorded single digits for four consecutive days since June 23. In fact, Malaysia has seen less than five cases of daily local infections involving Malaysians for six consecutive days,” he said during a press conference on the Covid-19 situation in Putrajaya, today.

Dr Noor Hisham said out of the six new cases reported, five were imported cases from overseas, which include four Malaysians and one foreigner.

He said the foreign citizen was permitted to enter the country for work purposes.

“The one local transmission recorded involved a Malaysian detected from a workplace screening in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said two positive Covid-19 cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and neither requiring respiratory aid.

No death was reported, which leaves the death toll at 121 for the 12th consecutive day.
