Surau at R&R, shopping complexes to reopen tomorrow

PUTRAJAYA, June 9 — The government today decided to allow surau facility in shopping complexes and at rest and service (R&R) areas to reopen beginning tomorrow, said Senior Minister (security cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the reopening was subject to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and those wanting to perform prayers at these places must practice self-discipline and social distancing.

“The stalls at the R&R areas will also be allowed to resume operations,” he said in a press conference today.

Ismail Sabri said that the special meeting also agreed for restaurants, food stalls, all businesses selling food, convenience stores and sundry shops to operate until midnight.

He said, however, social distancing and personal hygiene must be practiced at all times.

In addition, Ismail Sabri said the meeting also agreed to allow reopening of the National Zoo and other zoos during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) which will commence from tomorrow until August 31.

He said this was because the government had received the presentation on the SOPs developed by the respective zoos.

Asked about reopening of art centres, Ismail Sabri said the matter would be discussed with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on Thursday for further decision.
