Taman Langat Murni, Kuala Langat under administrative control, not EMCO

PUTRAJAYA, June 3 — Administrative control by way of the movement control order (MCO) has been implemented in Taman Langat Murni, Kuala Langat after positive cases of Covid-19 were detected in the area, said Senior Minister (security cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Denying media reports that the area was placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), he said residents there could still go about their daily activities but have to undergo close health screening to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Unlike the EMCO, they can still leave and enter the place but must undergo health checks by the Health Ministry (MOH),” he told a daily news conference on the conditional movement control order (CMCO) here today.

News reports claimed that the government had imposed EMCO in the area, with the police and military seen installing barbed wire fencing at midnight last night, allegedly because more than 20 foreigners there had tested positive for Covid-19.

EMCO was enforced in seven villages in Sungai Lui including two Orang Asli settlements after 71 positive Covid-19 cases were detected among 274 residents of Maahad Tahfiz AnNabawiyyah at Batu 23 Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat in March.

The last location to have been placed under EMCO was the Pasar Jalan Othman area in Petaling Jaya on May 10, after 26 Covid-19 cases were detected among traders and workers of the wet market there.

Ismail Sabri said the installation of barbed wire fencing did not necessarily mean that EMCO had been imposed.

Asked on the status of the CMCO, which is scheduled to end on June 9, he said an announcement would be made soon.

“We do not know yet because there has been no discussion on whether to extend it or not. Once a decision has been made we will make an announcement, whether it is lifted or extended,” he added.

He also said police arrested 56 people for violating the CMCO yesterday, with 46 being remanded and 10 given police bail.

Police also issued compounds on 88 individuals for breaching the CMCO but none of the bookings was for violations on Aidilfitri visits, he added.

He said police mounted 138 roadblocks to prevent unauthorised interstate travel and checked 267,373 vehicles nationwide yesterday, compared to 283,677 vehicles the day before.

“A total of 93 vehicles were ordered to turn back for trying to cross state lines without permission. Pahang recorded the most attempts to cross state borders with 38 cases, followed by Melaka (27) and Selangor (24),” he said.
