SHAH ALAM, July 6 — The number of dengue cases recorded in Selangor has dropped by 16.8 per cent with a total 31,007 cases registered in epidemic week 27 which ends today, says the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS).

Its director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said this shows a decrease of 6,265 cases compared to the same period last year which recorded 37,263 cases.

“The Petaling district has the highest number of cases with a total record of 10,944, followed by Klang (5,829), Hulu Langat (5,625), Gombak (4,457) and Sepang (1,720).

“A total of 31 deaths have been reported, which saw a drop in three deaths compared to 34 deaths recorded in the same period last year,” said Dr Sha’ari in a statement today.

He said there is a total of 340 localities of dengue infection, which includes 42 hotspots, 40 areas of uncontrolled outbreaks, 235 areas of controlled outbreaks, and 23 new outbreaks.

The department had also reminded the public to be proactive in carrying out controlled activities as well as dengue preventive measures to break the chain of infection.

This includes ensuring the environment is clean and clear from mosquito breeding grounds, using insect repellents and suitable outfits during peak biting periods (early in the morning and in the evening before dusk), and reporting to the local authorities on potential Aedes mosquito breeding habitats.
