Hishammuddin lambasts Philippines foreign affairs secretary over controversial Sabah tweet

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has rebuked Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr over his controversial tweet that ‘Sabah is not in Malaysia’ recently.

Hishammuddin described Teodoro’s statement as irresponsible and it could be detrimental to the bilateral ties between both countries.

As such, Hishammuddin via his Twitter account yesterday instructed Wisma Putra to summon the Philippines Ambassador, Charles C. Jose on Monday to explain on the aforementioned issue.

“Sabah is, and will always be, part of Malaysia,” he tweeted.

His tweet had garnered over 2,000 retweets and almost 4,000 likes so far.

Last Sunday, Teddy had tweeted ‘Sabah is not in Malaysia if you want to have anything to do with the Philippines’.

Teddy was responding to the United States of Embassy in the Philippines’ tweet on their donation of 500 hygiene kits to the returning Filipino repatriates from Sabah, who arrived in Zamboanga City and Bongao, Tawi Tawi.
