PUCHONG, July 23 — The flood mitigation project which is expected to resolve the flooding issues in front of the IOI shopping mall, here, will complete in February next year.

State Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the 300-meter project will divert excess water from Puchong Jaya to a lake (formerly a mining land) located behind the shopping centre.

The RM4 million project is located along Jalan Kenari 1.

“The cost of the second phase of the project will be borne by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), IOI Corporation, and Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings Bhd (Litrak).

“After the project is completed, we are confident that it will resolve the flooding issues in front of the IOI shipping mall,” said Ng after visiting the project site here today.

He said the project is a long-term solution to address the flooding problems while MPSJ carries out the maintenance works on the drainages as part of the short-term planning.

Ng said the unexpected heavy rainfall around 3.30pm yesterday had caused the areas around the IOI shopping centre to have experienced flash floods, including Bandar Puteri, Taman Kinrara Section 1, 2, 3 and Taman Melur, Mile 13.

The Kinrara state assemblyman said that the flooding at the Setia Walk mall, however, was not related to the ongoing flood mitigation project as the drains in the area have been upgraded two years ago. He added the cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the local council.
