SHAH ALAM, July 9 — The Selangor Agro Market programme has recorded total sales of RM15 million since it was first introduced during the movement control order (MCO) period.
Selangor Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Izham Hashim said the six agro markets that had operated for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri preparations alone had recorded total sales of RM500,000 over a two-day period.
“The fresh market opened in conjunction with Aidilfitri had offered fresh beef meat at RM33.50 per kilogramme, while other places had sold it between RM36 to RM38 per kilogramme.
“As for chicken, it was sold at RM7.20 per kilogramme, which was below the controlled price of RM7.50. We will work on expanding the Selangor Agro Market further in the future,” he told SelangorKini when contacted today.
The Selangor Agro Market was first initiated on March 27, while the Aidilfitri fresh markets were held on May 22 and 23 via a drive-through concept.
The state government had introduced the programme to ensure that the people have access to affordable fresh produce as well as to address the oversupply issue.
