SHAH ALAM, Aug 14 — Nineteen food premises were ordered closed during an integrated operation conducted by the Selangor Health Department in Kuala Langat and Hulu Selangor yesterday.
State Health director, Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said 11 of these premises were ordered closed under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 while the other eight were for violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) under the recovery movement control order (RMCO)
“The eateries ordered closed under the Food Act 1983 were given 14 days to clean up the premises while those violating the RMCO SOP were ordered to be closed for seven days,” he said in a statement, here, today.
Dr Sha’ari said in the operation, nine notices were also issued with fines totalling RM2,250 to customers for smoking in food premises.
Another 162 notices were issued to premises owners and workers for various offences under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
Dr Sha’ari said the Selangor Health Department would continue with the integrated operation on food premises across the state to ensure the owners, food handlers and the public would comply with the Food Act and Food Hygiene Regulations to ensure consumption of safe food, as well as adherence to the RMCO SOP.
Involved in the operation were 129 health officers, 19 police personnel and four members of the Civil Defence Force.
