Health DG: One Covid-19 case recorded, no patients in ICU

SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 — Only one new Covid-19 case was recorded as of noon today, which is the second time the lowest figure had been reported since July 1.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of cases in the country to 9,002 with 193 active cases.

“The single new case recorded today was a local infection involving a Malaysian, which was detected from a Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) screening and the patient is currently receiving treatment at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Perlis.

“It has been a month since the country recorded one daily Covid-19 case, which was on July 1. The Health Ministry would like to thank everyone for this achievement which had been the collective effort of everyone and all agencies involved and we hope that the people will continue with the new normal practices as well as adhere to the standard operating procedure that has been set by the government,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said no patients are currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit and there were also no fatalities linked to the virus reported, keeping the death toll at 125.

He said 16 patients have fully recovered from the infection today, pushing the total recoveries to 8,684 or a 96.5 recovery rate.
