MB: SELangkah facilitates people’s freedom during pandemic

SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 In conjunction with the 63rd National Day celebration, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari posted on measures taken by the state during the Covid-19 pandemic that was instrumental in containing the outbreak.

In his official posting titled “Liberating the mind via SELangkah” today, Amirudin revealed that alhough the state recorded the highest numbers of Covid-19, it has acted promptly in handling the onslaught of the coronavirus and took on a proactive stance in addressing the situation via the SELangkah system developed by the Selangor Covid-19 Task Force.

“The Selangor state government cares for the prosperity and wellbeing of its citizens. An initiative of this extent seeks to provide peace of mind and spirit to many while we face the threats presented by Covid-19. The state government is not sitting idly by,” said Amirudin.

“This is our contribution to #MerdekaKita (Our Independence),” he emphasised.

The @selangkahmy system collects exit-entry data of individual visits to premises which is then stored in big data for contact-tracing purposes.

According to Amirudin, it is the first practical contact-tracing system that works even without the use of smartphones.

It functions simply with the use of SMS and enables the tracking of potential Covid-19 cases upon the occurrence of an infection at an identified location.

As of June 2020, the Menteri Besar revealed that there had been 14 million logins recorded for the Selangor state’s contact-tracing system since it was first introduced on May 5 and that more than 40,000 entities and small businesses from the business sector in the state have also partook in the initiative.
