No National Day parade in Selangor, curb spread of Covid-19

SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — Selangor will not organise a National Day parade this coming August 31.

State division secretary (Management Service) Muhamad Shah Osmin said the decision was made after taking into account the latest update on Covid-19.

“As for now, we are continuing with the Wave the Jalur Gemilang flag campaign that was launched by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari with the Federal government on July 28,” said Muhamad Shah when contacted recently.

He added that the state government had also previously held tahlil (prayer for the dead), doa selamat (thanksgiving prayer) and reciting of Yasin ceremonies for Warrior’s Day at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque on July 24.

The memorial day to honour the fallen heroes was previously observed annually on July 31 every year.

The Communications and Multimedia Ministry yesterday called on the Malaysian citizens to celebrate the National Day with strong patriotic spirit even when the country is facing the threat of a pandemic.

Its minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said even though there is no National Day parade this year, the people can celebrate it creatively and share photos or videos of it on social media.

Malaysia celebrates its 63rd National Day this year with the theme Malaysia Prihatin (Malaysia Cares).
