SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — Selangor government will execute a realignment of the location of its WiFi installation to ensure implementation of the Selangor Internet Data initiative reaches the target group.
State Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said his team will refer to each state assemblyman to get the strategic location and fix the issue as soon as possible.
“We (the state government) are conducting a realignment by referring to each assemblyman to give the strategic location for the installation of the WiFi as there is a certain allocation especially (on the number of WiFi) in places frequented by people,” said Hee when contacted.
The RM18 million initiative introduced by the Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in the third phase of the state economic stimulus package targets nearly 40,000 users in the state.
Amirudin had previously said the initiative aims to reduce the cost of internet access and stimulate digitalisation efforts.
The initiative is also a support system to increase online services reach for the people especially to those in need such as the B40 group, rural students and teachers, as well as female entrepreneurs.
As of June 2019, 3,622 Smart Selangor WiFi have been installed throughout the state.
