Selangor mulls second round of virtual assembly sitting due to positive response

SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — The Selangor Virtual 2020 Youth State Assemblyman Programme has received an overwhelming response with 415 applications submitted to date, says Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim.

The Sekinchan state assemblyman said the interest shown to take part in the virtual sitting reflects that many youths in the country have the potential to become great future leaders.

“The talents of the youth must be polished as they are the next generation of leaders that will contribute to the development of the country.

“In line with the approval for 18-year-old to vote, we find that it is important to give early exposure on the role and function of a state assemblyman, which would also help them in making the right decision during election time,” he told SelangorKini today.

Ng said a second round of the virtual sitting is under consideration due to the positive response.

“Selangor has 56 state constituencies but we have received over 400 applications, so we will consider holding a second round of the virtual sitting,” he added.

Selangor is the first state to organise a virtual state legislative assembly sitting that includes youths from the age of 15 to 35.

Applications are now open until September 4 via the link at http://bit.ly/ADNMudaSelangorVirtual‬, the state legislative assembly official portal at dewan.selangor.gov.my, or on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) at @PAMSVirtual.
