Selangor Sultan conveys condolences to family of UiTM pro-chancellor

SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin have conveyed their condolences to the family of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) pro-chancellor Tan Sri Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad who died yesterday.

According to a statement from the Royal Selangor Office, Sultan Sharafuddin described the late Abdul Rahman as a friendly, strong-willed and highly knowledgeable person.

The Ruler first came to know the late Abdul Rahman in 2000 when the latter was appointed UiTM pro-chancellor.

“Since then, whenever there was an opportunity to meet up, His Highness and the late (Abdul Rahman) would exchange views on current issues.

“The last time the late Abdul Rahman was granted an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin was on July 9, 2020, at Istana Bukit Kayangan,” the statement said.

Sultan Sharafuddin conferred Abdul Rahman the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (S.P.M.S.) award which carries the title “Datuk Seri” in 2011 in appreciation of his contributions.

Abdul Rahman died of old age at his residence at Taman Ampang Utama, Ampang near here at about 10.45 am. He was 83.

He is survived by his widow, Puan Sri Noor Hayati Mohamed.
