Selangor to equip entrepreneurs with skills for e-commerce

By Norrasyidah Arshad

KLANG, Aug 24 — The Selangor government will provide training for entrepreneurs venturing into e-commerce to learn new skills, says its state executive councillor.

The State Investment, Industry and Trade, Small and Medium Industries Committee chairman Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said the profit recorded from the Selangor e-Bazaar Raya programme, which was held in May, had shown that online sales could contribute towards expanding the economy as well as ensure financial security.

“Skillfulness has become an essential core in the new norm following the Covid-19 outbreak and we encourage entrepreneurs to venture into this industry.

“Through Sitec (Selangor Information Technology and e-Commerce Council), we will nurture them with the right skills. We will not succeed simply by providing the funds, but by equipping them with the right skills, they would be able to benefit from it,” said Teng during the launch of the Selangor Digital Entrepreneur Roadshow 2020 here on Saturday.

Teng said while online business requires low capital, with the correct management, it would be able to record high profits.

“We have entered the e-commerce era before Covid-19. However, when the movement control order was enforced, we had to depend on this method and it had shown to be fruitful,” he said.

In July, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had announced that the state government e-Bazaar Raya initiative had recorded RM341.5 million in returns, which had exceeded its RM8 million target.

The two-month campaign had begun in May with a starting capital of RM1 million and was participated by 8,400 entrepreneurs inclusive of 6,400 conventional businesses with e-commerce platforms and 2,000 active existing traders.

The second series of the entrepreneur roadshow was held in collaboration with Lazada Malaysia, Boost e-Wallet, Avana, Ninja Van, BungkusIT, Hijrah Selangor, and Youbeli.

The event was attended by 200 participants.
