Selangor to make strong comeback in Super League

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Selangor import striker, Ifedayo Olusegun believes the Red Giants have what it takes to complete their 2020 Super League campaign in a better position.

The Nigerian hitman who is currently undergoing the compulsory 14-day quarantine since arriving in Malaysia on August 11, urged Selangor fans to continue their undivided support for the team to improve their standing this season.

“I believe we still have a good chance for this season. So, I hope the supporters will trust us to prove our best,” he was quoted as saying in the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) website, www.faselangor.my, yesterday.

On another note, Ifedayo said, he was glad to return to join his teammates in the Malaysia League resuming on August 26, adding that he was determined to maintain his fitness during the compulsory quarantine.

FAS management has provided some sports equipment such as exercise bicycle and weightlifting equipment for Ifedayo to maintain his fitness.

Selangor gave several stellar performances in their friendly matches recently with four straight wins since early this month despite Ifedayo’s absence.

The Red Giants whipped Penang 4-1 on August 5, followed by comfortable 3-0 victories over UKM FC and Negeri Sembilan on August 8 and August 13, respectively, before edging Terengganu FC 2-0 on August 15.

Selangor will resume their Super League action against Petaling Jaya City Stadium at UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam on August 27.

The 33-time Malaysia Cup champions have to play at UiTM Stadium as the Shah Alam Stadium was closed for refurbishment, expected to be completed in 2022 or 2023.

Selangor is currently in the sixth spot out of 12 teams in the Super League standings with five points after four matches (one win, two draws, and one defeat).
