SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — The Selangor government will be focusing on the agriculture sector in the upcoming Belanjawan Selangor 2021 (2021 Selangor Budget) as it plays a crucial role in food security.
Selangor Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Izham Hashim said the state will increase the potential of the sector through youth participation and the use of modern technology.
“This is the right time for the youth to grow the sector together. We have big plans coming up which will be shared in the near future.
“The agriculture sector should not only be seen as a product of quality and affordable goods but it must also bring higher returns,” he said at the 2020 Selangor Agro Icon Award Night, here yesterday.
Izham said the Covid-19 outbreak serves as a lesson to stimulate the agriculture and food industry as it plays an important part in the cycle of life.
He said the participation of the youth has been encouraging and it would benefit the potential of existing agricultural entrepreneurs in further developing the industry in the future.
