MBPJ calls for public support in ‘We Love Cities 2020’ campaign

SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has called for the public to participate in the We Love Cities 2020 campaign, which is the next stage of the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) 2019-2020 global competition.

The local council had urged the people to cast their vote at https://welovecities.org/petaling-jaya/ or scan the QR Code displayed on the campaign poster to submit their suggestions on improvements that MBPJ could work on for the city.

Petaling Jaya was selected as one of the finalists in the campaign, along with Melaka and Seberang Prai, beginning yesterday (September 14) to October 11.

“This campaign is open to all the OPCC finalists and it is to evaluate the public interaction in city planning and programmes by the local authority.

“Show your support by clicking the ‘like’ and ‘share’ buttons. Don’t forget to use the hashtags #welovepj #welovecities on social media platforms as a show of your support,” the council wrote in a post on its Facebook page, yesterday.

The local council had also hinted that a special contest awaits Instagram users, which will be announced soon.

On September 7, the city of Melaka was awarded as Malaysia’s national OPCC winner for the second time.

The 2019-2020 cycle of the biennial competition saw the participation from 250 cities from 53 countries, representing 66 per cent of the global population. This includes participation from Shah Alam, Penang, Sepang, and Jasin.
