Moderate earthquake hits north Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR,  Sept  14 — A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale hit north Sumatra in Indonesia at 2.28 am today. 

The Malaysian Meteorology Department (MET), in a statement, said the quake occurred about 75 kilometres east of Meulaboh, Indonesia, at a depth of 120 kilometres.

However, it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said.
