Selangor must be tech-producing state, spur innovation

SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 — Selangor needs to step up into becoming a technology-producing state by spurring innovation of green technology, says its state executive councillor.

State Investment, Industry and Trade, Small and Medium Industries Committee chairman Dato’ Teng Chang Kim said public awareness is important in order to form an ecosystem in the state’s innovative industry.

He said the state government has to look into ways to achieve this to shift its dependence from being a technology-consuming state while at the same time attracting investors.

“We are now technology consumers and we only know how to consume… it is time for us to have the capability to create technology. The state would have to look into how to implement this,” he said at the 2021 Selangor Budget Dialogue at the Setia City Convention Centre, here yesterday.

Teng had also cited Aerodyne Group, a local company specialising in drones and artificial intelligence (AI), to become the world’s third main industry player in the said field.

He said the company is located in Selangor and uses drones to build data analysis.
