Whole Penang 2020, opportunity for Selangor entrepreneurs to promote products

By Zareef Muzammil

BAYAN LEPAS, Sept 11 — Twenty new micro-entrepreneurs from Selangor participated in the World Hospitality, Lifestyle and Entertainment Exhibition and Conference (Whole Penang 2020) held from yesterday to September 12 at the SPICE Arena and Convention Centre here.

Selangor Entrepreneur, Rural, Village and Traditional Village Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said the country’s inaugural exhibition also features seven exhibitors including five exhibitors including two state agencies which are Selangor Digital e-Supply Chain (Seldec) and Tourism Selangor.

“This event provides exposure for new entrepreneurs to witness themselves the potential in domestic business as well as injecting motivation for them to venture further into the field.

“Aside from that, we also want them to build good networking with entrepreneurs from other states and to eventually be able to market their products,” she said after attending the Whole Penang 2020 opening event here yesterday.

At the same time, Rodziah was proud to be able to bring entrepreneurs to the prestigious event even though the country is still under the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period.

She said this opportunity should be fully utilised by the entrepreneurs involved to get an understanding of the external market, especially through the digital platform.

“This is why we showcase Seldec to the entrepreneurs to enable them to understand the method of selling products online using the special medium created by the state government.

“Usually people will know about Shopee and Lazada but we (Selangor) already have our own platform to market the state’s fresh produce from rural to urban areas. I believe with this (Seldec), business (entrepreneurs) could expand beyond Selangor,” she said.

The first hybrid exhibition and conference of its kind in Malaysia for hospitality and tourism is hosted by the Penang government through Penang State Exco Office for Tourism, Arts, Culture & Heritage (PETACH) and officiated by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

Organised in accordance with the standard operating procedure (SOP), 106 companies participated in the event and exhibitors got access to virtual exhibitions that showcase the tourism industry needs with a focus on the business-to-business (B2B) programme.
