SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — Some 10,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro-entrepreneurs in Selangor are set to benefit from the Selangor e-Bazaar 11.11 Mega Sale campaign, which was launched today.

State Investment, Industry and Commerce and Small and Medium Enterprise Committee chairman Dato’ Teng Chang Kim said the campaign is an initiative by the Selangor government to help businessmen who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic to continue running their businesses.

He said the initiative, which is only open to traders registered in Selangor, will also drive the digitalisation process for SMEs and micro-entrepreneurs whose premises were affected by the enforcement of the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

“We have allocated RM2 million in the form of subsidy vouchers to the Selangor e-Bazaar 11.11 Mega Sale campaign, which will run for a month starting today to November 26, on the Shopee and Lazada e-commerce platforms.

“Each platform will receive RM1 million. The state government aims to attract 10,000 SMEs and micro-entrepreneurs in Selangor to join this campaign.

“We hope the allocation of the subsidy vouchers will benefit them by generating an income through the attractive promotions by Shopee and Lazada,” said Teng in his officiating speech that was read by Invest Selangor Bhd chief executive officer Dato’ Hasan Azhari Idris during a virtual media conference today.

Also present were Selangor Information Technology and e-Commerce Council (Sitec) chief executive Yong Kai Ping, Shopee Malaysia Fast Moving Consumer Goods head Tan Ming Kit and Lazada Malaysia Public Policy and Government Affairs head Shahrul Azhar Shaari.

Those interested in the campaign can sign-up via the website www.sitec.com.my/selangorebazar or through the e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada.

Registration is open now until the campaign ends.

Shopee and Lazada will also provide free training via their university for the registered SMEs and micro-entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, Teng said in the state government’s similar digital initiative earlier this year, RM1 million was allocated for the Selangor e-Bazaar Raya, which ran from May to July.

The programme had successfully generated RM11.7 million of sales which is a 12-fold return of investment (ROI) and had 6,400 new e-commerce sellers registered for the initiative.
