By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — Selangor has recorded 553 dengue cases in epidemic week 39 from September 20 to 26, which is a slight rise compared to the 524 cases registered the week before.

Selangor Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said although there was a 5.5 per cent increase, the total number of cases recorded at 38,865 was a decrease of 30.3 per cent (16,908 cases) compared to 55,773 cases recorded the previous week.

“Five districts that recorded the highest number of dengue cases are Petaling (13,608) cases; Hulu Langat (8,091); Klang (6,440); Gombak (5,603) and Sepang (2,198),” he said.

Dr Sha’ari said there are 192 active dengue localities, of which 20 locations categorised as hotspots, 14 uncontrolled outbreaks, 148 controlled outbreaks, and 10 new outbreaks.

“36 deaths were recorded during this period, which is a decrease of 25 per cent or 12 cases, compared to 48 deaths recorded on the same week last year,” he said.

Dr Sha’ari had urged residential and work communities to conduct regular ‘gotong-royong’ activity while adhering to the new normal approach.

He said all unused water containers that are found in the community must be destroyed while permanent containers must be covered or treated with Aedes mosquitoes larvae killer and inspected on a weekly basis.
