KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has released the third publication of My Local Stats, Malaysia, 2019, presenting the main socioeconomic statistics at administrative district levels for the time series of 2017 until 2019.
Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the availability of more detailed statistics at the local level enabled planning and monitoring of implementation, as well as the effectiveness of local public policy.
“The publication will benefit the community as a whole with the result of more efficient planning and resource management by decision makers at the district and local government levels,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Uzir said My Local Stats was published for each of the 160 administrative districts, including the Federal Territories and Perlis, as well as 20 areas of socioeconomic statistics.
Mohd Uzir said among main findings in the field of education is the improvement of access to equitable educational opportunities with 7,773 primary schools and 2,438 secondary schools that could accommodate learning facilities for 2.7 million primary school students and two million secondary school students.
On the other hand, he said the healthcare sector currently faced a challenging environment in terms of consumer needs, the emergence of new disease risks and changes in medical technology.
“Recognising the importance of healthcare in the community, as of 2018, there were 154 government hospitals, 1,090 health clinics, 1,791 rural clinics and 343 community clinics to facilitate the public to seek health care,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said statistics at district levels showed that the highest number of population was in Petaling (2.19 million), followed by Johor Bahru (1.6 million) and Ulu Langat (1.39 million).
In 2019, the highest median monthly gross household income was recorded in Petaling (RM8,993) followed by Sepang (RM8,937) and Gombak (RM8,501).
