Field hospital in Tawau being activated — Health DG

TAWAU, Oct 15 — The process of activating a field hospital is currently underway at the Tawau Sports Complex Hall here.

The hospital which is located about 10 minutes from the Tawau Hospital is being set up in collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a Facebook posting today said the field hospital would be used to treat non-Covid-19 patients from the Tawau Hospital.

“The field hospital is dedicated to providing Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Orthopaedic and General Surgery services,” he said.

According to him, the activation of the field hospital would give more space to the Tawau Hospital to treat positive Covid-19 cases that require intensive care (category 3 to 5) including those referred from nearby districts, especially Semporna.

“Cases with no or mild symptoms (category 1 and 2) will be placed at the Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC),” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also expressed his thanks to all parties, especially the MAF that have contributed to the setting up of the field hospital.
