Jalan Meru Cluster: Business as usual for morning, night markets

By Khairul Azran Hussin

BANGI, Oct 2 — Morning and night markets in Meru, Klang, operate as usual despite the new Covid-19 cluster in the area, says Selangor Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development Executive Councillor Ng Sze Han.

However, Ng said the authorities will continue to monitor the development of the infection including seeking opinions from the Health Ministry and the Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC).

“Our actions depend on the advice given by the authorities on health issues, so for now, business activities of both markets in Meru are still allowed.

“But we remind the traders and shoppers to adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) while enforcers from the local council will monitor their level of compliance,” said Ng after attending the prize-giving ceremony of MyDebit Campaign with Smart Selangor held at the Smart Selangor Digital Corner at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia here today.

Yesterday, the Jalan Meru Cluster was newly discovered when a 30-year-old local man had tested positive for Covid-19 on September 24.

The contact tracing procedure had detected another three cases in the cluster, all involving locals.

On June 15, Selangor had allowed morning and night markets including bazaars to be opened in stages, but to be determined by local councils in accordance to site’s sizes.

Before that, all markets nationwide were closed following the enforcement of the movement control order to curb the spread of Covid-19.
