PM to undergo self-quarantine, work from home

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will undergo self-quarantine at his premises for 14 days after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri was confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19 today.

Muhyiddin had chaired a special meeting of the National Security Council (MKN) on Saturday (October 3) and Zulkifli, who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Seremban, was in attendance.

However, the Prime Minister stressed that the matter would not interfere with the government’s affairs.

“I will continue to work from home and use video conferencing for meetings that I need to chair,” he said in a statement today.

Muhyiddin said he had been undergoing Covid-19 swab tests once every two weeks since April as a preventive measure and all the results were negative.

Apart from that, he said he had also undergone three Covid-19 tests in the past three weeks, on September 22, 26 and 29, and they all came back negative as well.

The Prime Minister said the Health Ministry (MOH) had also conducted Covid-19 screening on all the members who attended the meeting and the secretariat.

“Based on risk evaluation by the MOH, those identified as close contacts during the meeting have been issued a home surveillance order (HSO) for 14 days beginning from October 3 and told to wear the surveillance wristband,” he said.

He added that members of the meeting who were not close contacts had been advised to undergo self-quarantine for 14 days from October 3 to 16 and to practice daily self-health monitoring at home using the home assessment tool (HAT) that can be found on the MySejahtera application.
