SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 — The Selangor Legislative Assembly that has been slated to be held for two weeks may be shortened if the Covid-19 situation in the state worsens.

Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim said the decision will also depend on the ongoing conditional movement control order (CMCO), which is scheduled to end on October 27.

“According to schedule, the sitting is supposed to start on October 30 (Friday) and will be running for two weeks. However, depending on the current situation, including a surge in Covid-19 cases, the duration (of the sitting) may be shortened.

“This is because we want to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of those involved in the sitting is well taken care of,” he told the press when met after undergoing the Covid-19 screening at the Selangor State Secretariat building, here today.

Ng said some 1,200 individuals involved in the upcoming sitting had taken part in the Covid-19 screening operation, which took place today until tomorrow. This includes state representatives, civil servants, officers and members of the press.

He said only those tested negative for Covid-19 will be allowed to attend the state assembly.

“We expect the results to be available before Wednesday and we hope that everything will run smoothly,” he added.

The Selangor Legislative Assembly will convene on October 30 and will see Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari table the Belanjawan Selangor 2021 (2021 Selangor Budget).
