SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 — The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) is officially upgraded to Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) today, after receiving the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

The historic event was announced by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in a statement today.

“I am pleased to inform that His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Sultan of Selangor and all the districts under its rule, has granted his Royal consent for the Subang Jaya Municipal Council to be declared as Subang Jaya City Council effective today, Tuesday, October 20, 2020,” the statement read.

Amirudin also announced the appointment of Noraini Roslan as the Subang Jaya mayor effective today with the consent from the Selangor Ruler and under Subsection 10(1) of the Local Government Act 1976.

He said the Selangor government is thankful to the Sultan of Selangor for granting his consent.

“Hopefully with the declaration of the Subang Jaya City Council, the sustainable development of Subang Jaya and the surrounding localities will continue to be strengthened through the world-class service delivery system.

“With the permission of Allah, these ambitions will be able to be mobilised together towards realising the ‘Selangor Maju Bersama’ agenda,” he added.

Subang Jaya is third city in Selangor after Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam.

The Petaling Jaya City Council achieved its status in 2006 and the Shah Alam City Council in 2010.

Subang Jaya was carved out from the then Petaling Jaya District Council in 1997 and upgraded to become a municipal council.

Selangor has six other municipals — Selayang, Ampang Jaya, Klang, Kajang, Sepang and Kuala Langat — and three district councils, namely Hulu Selangor, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.
